The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2020 is a 100% Sangiovese from a single vineyard in the heart of Chianti Classico, in Tuscany. Grown on silty-loam soils with some skeleton, the vines were planted in 2000 with a density of 7,350 plants per hectare and a yield of 60 quintals per hectare. The limited production stands at around 14,700 bottles. The grapes, harvested by hand, are selected berry by berry before fermenting for 20 days in temperature-controlled vats, followed by a post-fermentation maceration. Malolactic fermentation takes place in 25 hl wooden barrels, where the wine ages for 18 months, of which 6 on the fine lees, followed by a further 6 months in steel and 6 in the bottle. On the palate, it is distinguished by notes of red cherry, tobacco, leather, spices and licorice, with elegant tannins and a well-balanced acidity, offering power, structure and a long and pleasant finish. This wine has received numerous awards, including 95 points from Robert Parker and 94 points from James Suckling for selected vintages.
